Mayor Pete Lewis

Mayor Pete Lewis was elected to his current office in January of 2002 after having served as a city councilmember since 1998. He is currently serving in his second term.

Born in Boston, Mass. and growing up in a military family he has lived in many places across the United States. Lewis first came to the Auburn community in 1980 to work as a banker with a primary goal to find a permanent home for wife Kathy was and their two daughters. For nearly 20 years, Lewis worked in Auburn as a community banker and community volunteer. He was involved with many community groups and served on multiple boards including The Auburn Noon Lions, Auburn Food Bank, Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce, North Auburn Merchants, Metro South King County Reorganization Committee, Parking Committee and Miss Auburn. He is a strong believer in community involvement; he has always been active in a variety of local organizations and encourages others to do the same.

Lewis was elected to the City Council in1998 and served on the Council as Vice Chair of the Council's Finance Committee, Vice Chair of the Public Works Committee, member of the Planning and Community Development Committee. He also served his city on a regional basis as a member of Puget Sound Growth Management Committee, Economic Development Committee, Pierce County Regional Council and the King County Growth Management Committee.

Currently, he is the current Chair of Valley Communications Center (Valley Com) and serves as a Board Member for the Suburban Cities Association (SCA), Past Chair of the Public Issues Committee of SCA, Member of the Mental Illness and Drug Dependency (MIDD), Past Chair and member of the Green River Valley Flood Control District, Past Chair and member of the South County Area Transportation Board, Caucus Chair of the King County Regional Policy Committee, Past Chair and member of the South King County Human Services Forum, Pierce County Cities and Towns Forum, member of the Valley Cities Association and Vice Chair of the Puget Sound Regional Council Economic Development District Board.

Mayor Lewis has been committed to working in partnership to increase business development while keeping the sense of a small town community whole. As a U.S. Navy veteran he has worked hard to help veterans groups and veterans in need and is proud of the fact that he helped open the first King County Veteran's office outside of downtown Seattle that recently opened at Veterans Memorial Park. He works with the Executives and County Councils of two counties, the Chair and Council of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, the nine Valley Cities, the 37 Suburban Cities Associations and the four-county Puget Sound Regional Council on a regular basis.

Mayor Lewis is committed to an open door policy. His door is always open and he encourages citizens to stop in and visit.
