Western Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit

The City of Auburn is regulated under a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) municipal stormwater permit issued by the Washington State Department of Ecology. Requirements of the Permit include the development and annual update of a Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) Plan which details the actions and activities to be implemented by the City in order to reduce the discharge of pollutants from our storm drainage system.

The SWMP Plan includes measures related to Stormwater Planning, Public Education and Outreach, Public Involvement and Participation, Storm Drainage System Mapping and Documentation, Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination, Controlling Runoff from New Development, Redevelopment and Construction Sites, Operations and Maintenance, and a Source Control Program for Existing Development. The Permit lists specific actions and methods that the City must implement through the SWMP.

Auburn's SWMP Plan is an evolving document that will change with modifications to the NPDES requirements and the status of our Plan implementation. Formal changes are made in the first quarter of the year, and then the SWMP Plan is submitted to the Department of Ecology.
