Gingerbread Contest

Gingerbread houseFREE - This fun event celebrates the holidays and brings the community together to see what Auburn can build! 17 Gingerbread structures will be on display at the Auburn Community & Events Center!

Voting will be open December 1 - 18, 2021.

There are three categories to vote in, youth, adult, and Battle of the Badges! The winner in each category will be selected by votes from the public. 

Contest rules & requirements:
  • All entries must have a base no larger than 2'x2' 
  • Entry must be appropriate for audiences of all ages.
  • Entry must be original and built in 2021.
  • Entry must be 90% edible on the exterior.
  • Any structure - real or imaginary is eligible for entry i.e. house, train, igloo, spaceship, etc.
  • The City of Auburn reserves the right to remove any entry from display at any time, for any reason, and at its sole discretion.
  • Displays must be dropped off at the Community & Events Center on Monday, November 29 or Tuesday, November 30 by 7:00 PM.
A winner will be announced on Monday, December 20, 2021.

Santa Parade & Tree Lighting

Main Street, Auburn, WA

Auburn's Lighted Santa Parade & Tree Lighting event returns! 
From Auburn High School to City Hall, lighted entries will fill Main Street with holiday joy! Beginning at 4:30 PM the parade will feature lighted vehicles, floats, cars, and walking entries. All community, families, non-profits, and businesses are welcome to participate. All entries wishing to participate in the parade must register in advance by Wednesday, December 1st, 2021. Santa Parade

All entries must have a lighted element.

Join us for live music before and after the parade at City Hall. Then watch as the community brings out their lighted holiday parade entries! We'll wrap up the event with the annual tree lighting at City hall plus a visit from Santa. 

As of September 7, we are required to follow the King County mask mandate, which states the following: Masks are required at any outdoor event with 500 or more people in attendance. This requirement applies to all people, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, 5-years of age and older. The vaccination verification/proof of negative test is NOT required for this particular outdoor event. 


Flip the switchSanta is looking for a special helper to light the tree in front of City Hall. Nominations have closed for the 2021 event. A winner will be announced by December 2nd.

Please note, multiple nominations for the same child will only be entered once into the drawing. The winner will be selected at random by Mayor Backus.

Pre-register for a visit and photo with Santa! This outdoor event will take place on the back patio of the Auburn Community & Events Center. 

Be sure to bring your camera or phone for Santa's Elves to snap your picture!

To allow for social distancing and to keep everyone safe, time slots will be available upon registration. There will be a table with drinks and cookies while you wait for your visit with Santa. Kids under 16 will also receive a goodie bag that includes fun prizes and a holiday craft!

Cost to participate:
1 - 6 people in your party........$20/$25 (resident/non-resident)
7+ people in your party............$30/$38 (resident/non-resident)

Hop around Auburn's parks and trails in search of the elusive bunny, who'll be hidden in various locations around Auburn. Find the bunny, have a chance to win prizes and have a blast doing it! This will be a fun and safe event for families, Seniors, our Specialized Recreation Community or anyone looking for an opportunity to get outside and get active in an outdoor setting.

Here's how it works:

  1. Print the Bunny Scorecard (PDF), if you wish, or bring something on your search to track your bunnies such as a notepad and pen, smartphone or tablet. Note: you do NOT need to email scorecards. Submit details on the On-line Scorecard Submission Form (available April 15 at 8:00 AM). Printed scorecards (for tracking purposes only) will also be available at: 
    • Auburn Community & Event Center, 910 Ninth Street SE, in a pamphlet holder on April 14 - 18.

  2. At 8:00 PM on April 14, we will announce the list of parks and trails where bunnies are hiding.  Note: for those of you with special needs two of the parks will have more accessible bunnies which are in view from the trail/path to accommodate wheelchairs, strollers and wagons. 

  3. ExampleAll bunnies will look like this example bunny image. Bunnies are approximately 12" tall. Each bunny has a unique number. Please don't take the bunnies so everyone can enjoy this activity. Please don't move the bunnies so we can keep them safe from mowers and other maintenance equipment.

  4. Search for bunnies during park hours, April 15 - 18. You will need to find a minimum of ten bunnies. In most cases, you may need to visit two or more parks to complete your scorecard. Print our scorecard (PDF), or bring something to track your bunnies.

  5. Complete the On-line Bunny Scorecard Submission Form (available April 15). The on-line scorecard will contain contact information and 10 spaces to indicate the bunnies that you found. There will also be the opportunity to share photos or comments with us. We enjoy hearing from you! The on-line scorecard will be available until 11:59 PM on Monday, April 18. Sorry, no late entries. 

  6. Each person who participates must submit their own scorecard. Adults welcome to play too! Duplicate entries will be deleted. 

  7. Winners selected at random and emailed by April 22.

Prizes include the following items:

Celebrate Earth Day in Auburn! Register your group to help clean up and beautify Auburn! The Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department will be assigning small groups to projects around Auburn. Current safety guidelines provided by the State will be upheld at each project site.  

Pre-event breakfast and kick-off details to be announced.

A family-oriented fun run event that takes place prior to Auburn's Petpalooza festival. Participants will follow a 3K or 5K route. The course is flat, easy and enjoyable for all ages and ability levels. Water will be available on the course for both dogs and human participants. The race is 'chip-timed' by BuDu Racing. 

REGISTRATION FEE:

  • Early Registration (on or before March 31) - $20/person
  • Late Registration (April 1 - May 17) - $25/person
  • Sorry, no registrations May 18 - May 20.
  • On-Site Registration on May 21 - $30/person
ON-LINE REGISTRATION (opens November 1, 2021)

***First 100 to register receive a 28-oz h2go Petpalooza-logoed aluminum water bottle. 

Registration includes a limited-edition 2022 T-Shirt, full-color race bib and a participation medal. T-shirt sizes not guarantees for late registrations. While supplies last for on-site registrations. 

DOG TROT RULES OF PARTICIPATION:

  • All participants must have their race bib on the FRONT of their person
  • Dogs must be current on vaccinations
  • No aggressive dogs
  • No female dogs in heat
  • No more than two dogs per human
  • Keep your dog on a 7-foot leash or shorter at all times. 
  • No dogs under the age of six months
  • Bring your dog only if he/she is well socialized
  • Please, clean up after your dog
  • Run or walk the course only if you and your pet are in adequate physical condition
  • Strollers are welcome on the course
  • Participants may not switch race distances after May 17
  • Participants must run/walk the course in its entirety with a dog to be eligible for awards
  • Route will close after 90-minutes

Petpalooza is a FREE event for pet lovers and a special day for your four-legged family member or other furry friend. Petpalooza is kicked off with a Dog Trot 3K/5K Fun Run. The event features an animal-related entertainment stage, flydog and agility demos, the Northwest Pet Contest, an agility area, a large variety of vendor booths, adoptions, give-a-ways and lots of activities to keep both humans and pets entertained.

Celebrate our country's birthday at Les Gove Park. The event includes entertainment on two stages, a variety of craft artists, a car show, inflatable rides, euro-bungee trampolines, train rides and other fun activities for children. The event also offers a rock climbing wall, mini golf, bocce, food concessions, and so much more! Come see for yourself, this naturally shaded park and spray park will keep you cool during the afternoon.

This entertainment series will be held at the park shelter beside the Discovery Playground.

*In the event of rain, concerts will be rescheduled, if possible.

  • July 13 - Reptile Isle - an educational, interactive reptile performance everyone enjoys.
  • July 20 - Eric Herman & the Puppy Dogs - super cool tunes for kids!
  • July 27 - Dani & the Bee - Seattle-based musical duo playing songs for kids (and kids at heart!)
  • August 3 - Ruth and Emilia - a mother-daughter duo with music, wacky characters and positive themes!
  • August 10 - Louie Foxx's One Man Side Show - hilarious magic, mixed with goofy stunts.
  • August 17 - Eric Ode - award winning children's singer/songwriter and local favorite!

Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk

The Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk is an in-person fun run perfect for all ages and abilities!

ROUTE

The Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk is an easy run around Les Gove Park. This fun run will utilize the big loop at Les Gove Park. Five loops around is “almost” a 5K (short of a 5K by 1,138 feet). For each lap around the loop, participants will stop, choose a card, and try to get the best poker hand with the five cards drawn. To reduce contact with others, only Poker Run volunteers will touch the playing cards. Participants will select their card from a safe distance.

RULES OF PARTICIPATION & AWARDS

  • Those unvaccinated should wear a mask when social distance cannot be accommodated
  • The route will be open  from 7 PM - 8:30 PM 
  • Participants must draw 5 cards total, one upon completion of each large loop at Les Gove Park, to create their final poker hand  
  • Strollers are welcome on the course (please note, children not pushed in a stroller must be a paying participant in the race).
  • Awards will be distributed to the top poker hands in eight age categories:
    • Child (8 & under)
    • Tween (9-12 yrs.)
    • Teen (13-19 yrs.)
    • Adult I (20-29 yrs.)
    • Adult II (30-39 yrs.)
    • Adult III (40-49 yrs.)
    • Adult IV (50-70 yrs.)
    • Senior (71+ yrs.)
  • Awards will be announced the following Monday via email and social media 
  • Interval starts will be offered in groups of 50 participants, every 15 minutes from 7 PM until 8 PM. Participants will select their preferred time at registration.
  • Parking information and more details will be emailed to participants the week of the event.
  • Please maintain a minimum of 6-feet of distance when possible
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at all tables.
  • Participants should not attend the event if they have a temperature of 100.4F or greater, feel sick, or believe they may have been exposed to COVID-19. Should this be the case, you can make arrangements to pick-up your packet at a later time. 

Friday, August 12 Schedule:

  • 6 PM - on-site participant check in opens
  • 7 PM - Poker Run begins
  • 8:15 PM - Last group to start Poker Run
  • 8:30 PM - Poker Run closes
