How to Apply

The following information is provided to assist you in understanding our employment process. If you have any questions, please contact us at 253-931-3040 or [email protected].

Job Announcement

For each position advertised, a job announcement is provided. It is important that you review the job announcement carefully to see if you meet the minimum qualifications before completing the application packet. The City of Auburn posts new job openings as they become available. The City also offers email notifications when a new position is posted, in the category of your choice. Sign up for job alerts. Volunteer opportunities are also available.

Employment Application

The City of Auburn utilizes an online application process. A completed online application is required to be considered for any City job opening. The City accepts applications for open positions only. If you apply for more than one job opening, a separate application is required for each.

If this is your first time applying using our online job application, you will need to create an account and select a username and password. After your account has been created, you can build an application by clicking on your username in the top right corner of the screen, then, clicking the "Profile" link. This application can be saved and used to apply for more than one job opening.

Please note that online applications are stored on a secure site. Only authorized employees and hiring authorities have access to the information submitted. It is important that your application be complete and indicates all relevant education and experience you possess. Applications may not be accepted if incomplete.

For more information about creating an online account or applying to an open position, please see our guide How to: Apply Online (PDF).

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The City of Auburn is dedicated to building an inclusive, informed city, with opportunities for all. In alignment with that goal, the City has adopted an anonymous application process that prevents hiring managers from seeing personal identifiers, including names, addresses, and other similar information. This eliminates the possibility of unintentional or implicit bias during the initial screening of applications. For that reason, hiring managers will not be viewing any attachments to your application, including cover letter or resume, during the initial screening.

Resumes and Other Attachments

You are encouraged to attach a cover letter, resume, and/or other documentation that provides information regarding your background and experience. Even if documents are attached, you must complete the requested information, including supplemental questions, thoroughly for your application to be considered complete.

Applicants are considered for employment without regard to race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, creed, age, marital status, veteran's status, disability status, or any other basis prohibited by federal, state, or local law. Team Auburn values diverse perspectives and life experiences. We encourage people of all backgrounds to apply, including Black, Indigenous, and people of color, immigrants, refugees, women, LGBTQ, people with disabilities, and veterans. If you require accommodation to complete the application, testing, or interview process, please contact the Human Resources Department at 253-931-3040.

Interviews and Testing

As interviews are set up, you will be notified of the date and time of the interview, the type of interview, and if any testing will take place. Some positions may have interviews or testing that can be self-scheduled online by the applicant. In that case, you will be notified with instructions via email. Only those applicants who are interviewed and subsequently not selected will receive letters of notification.

For more information about self-scheduling an interview or skills test, please see our guide How to: Self-Schedule (PDF).
