Harvesting Hope by Lauren Iida
…A Familiar Taste highlighted narratives from artists of color through the lens of food and cultural foodways. This exhibit presented a visual and literary feast evoking a diverse range of connections, emotions, and memories. It was an invitation to consider one’s own relationship to food and explore how different backgrounds and experiences informed our interaction with culinary traditions.
From nostalgic recollections of intimate kitchen convenings and childhood meals, to traveling to a motherland and savoring familiar flavors, and using food as symbolism to further explore socio-political complexities of cultural identity, …A Familiar Taste used the common thread of food as a vessel for storytelling, cultural preservation and reconnection, and community building.
